Phi-ton bed receives “red dot” for superior design quality

Only one year on the market, the Phi-ton bed of product developer Fried-Jan Unger can already be labeled a modern classic. The Phi-ton bed of Netherlands based Phi-ton International BV. has won one of the most desired awards for its unique design: the red dot award. This quality hallmark is conferred annually for innovative designs of superior quality at the international competition "red dot design award".

Exciting symbiosis of design, comfort and technique

What makes the design of the Phi-ton bed so unique are the sophisticated lines that seem to be floating in space, without the restrictions of a subframe. A bed that offers room for individuality and in which advanced, patented technology is invisibly incorporated.
The beds together with the Phi-ton 3D-mattresses can be adjusted to almost any desired position. The Phi-ton beds have innovative bottom springs not used in any other bed so far. The 3D braided fabric provides optimum pressure distribution, air and moisture permeability and excellent hygiene.

Receiving an award in an internationally renowned design competition such as the “red dot award” is an important indicator whether a product has the potential to be successful on an international scale. “Many companies participating in the red dot design award have been successfully investing in innovation and design for a long time in order to stand out from the competition and to convey their brand values”, explains Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award and president of the international design association ICSID. “However, creativity by itself is not enough; the products also have to be of high quality. And it is also the task of design to communicate this quality.”

The jurors were impressed with the overall very high quality standards of the submitted products, which can now be found in all industries. This development makes it increasingly difficult to receive one of the awards in the international design competition. At the same time, the importance of such an award becomes even greater for companies, because it is an objective quality label for good design.

Award ceremony and special exhibition
The festive award ceremony takes place on 26 June 2006 in the Essen Aalto Theatre. The award-winning works will be exhibited in the special exhibition “Design on stage – winners red dot award: product design 2006” from 27 June to 23 July 2006 in the red dot design museum in Essen. The red dot design museum houses the largest permanent exhibition of contemporary design world-wide.
