The third dimension in your life

Arnhem, 17th May 2006. With the "imm interior innovation award" and the "red dot" Phi-ton has already collected two prestigious awards this year. Now a third distinction might be on the way – a major one, what’s more: the Phi-ton 3D mattress has just been nominated for the 2007 Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany. Judging will take place at the end of September; in October the 25 products will be announced which the top international jury has deemed to show an outstanding level of competence in design.

Even just nomination for the Design Award is a notable distinction, for it is the Federal Republic of Germany’s official design award. It is the central design-promotion measure of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour.

Nomination a special distinction

A distinctive feature of the Design Award is that companies cannot enter for it themselves. Instead they are nominated by the Ministries and Senators for Trade & Industry of the German States or by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. No other design award sets its entrants such a demanding standard: only those products are nominated which have already won a national or international award. The Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany is therefore also commonly called the "prize of prizes".

Product developer Fried-Jan Unger won the "interior innovation award" at imm cologne 2006 in the Materials Innovation product category for the Phi-ton 3D mattress, because in developing it he puts his trust consistently in the use of the functional 3D braided fabric.

The material that has it in it: 3D braided fabrics

This high-tech material is one of the most exciting things textile engineers have developed for years. Only Phi-ton uses it exclusively to realise “sleeping comfort in the 3rd dimension”. In bold designer beds, innovative mattresses and pillows – a world first which enables all comfort requirements to be met in one system. Because they obtain their volume from millions of interwoven polyester fibres, 3D braided fabrics offer excellent pressure distribution, outstanding air and moisture regulation and optimum hygiene.
